Historical Background
“What has been written has been written” There is no how a man can run away from what has been predestined.
Even before his mother conceived, lot of prophecies has been pronounced to the woman that “She conceive and have a baby boy, the boy will be a great prophet and he will have his own church as a pastor and he will have so many branches. And he will be a powerful instrument. His name shall be called Elijah”.
After a while, she conceived and the prophecies came to past accordingly. After his birth lots more prophecies was pronounced through many spiritualist about his mission. He was christened at The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim C&S Church Ogo Oluwatobi (House of Prayer). He was a youth leader of Spiritualist Band (Alore) Ogo Oluwa Tobi.
He went in trance for the first time for 7days in the year 1988 and for 14 days in the year 1989. Due to his call God commanded him to abstain from his church after the trance and be in accordance with His direction. During this abstinence God commanded him to meet him in so many places like mountain, wilderness, Churches, beach to mention few. In 1991 during Easter Festive period, one of his secondary school mates invited him to a church in Ijesha for vigil, on getting there, there was a pronouncement that God has commissioned a great work in his hand and he has a lot to do and it will last for an era of 2-3 years. In month of September 1991, he was re-invited for a vigil on Friday in which he went with his friends and his crew. On that glorious night one of the friends he went with went in trance in that vigil and it lasted for 14 days in the month of September 1991. That was the beginning of the work in Saint Peters Church Ona Ara, Ijeshatedo. To the glory of God Elijah Akorede went in trace for 41days in the month of October through November, 1991.
In 1993 God ordered him to abstain from the church again and be listening to His directives henceforth. Been a being that is close to God and love serving God he found it difficult to just sit at home without attending any church, so he decided to be going to any close by churches for vigils and any invited programs. During this period, God ministered to him through many vessels that it is high time for him (Elijah) to start the journey of planting a church. He found it hard and the most difficult thing he could do and started given a lot of flimsy excuses. On Friday night, the voice of thy Lord spoke to him to organize a vigil in his rented apartment where he lives.
Akorede still insisted and went ahead to Idi araba for an invited vigil (one of his friends’ church) on his way going along with his crew as they got to the bus stop there wasn’t any cab nor taxi to pick them despite it was not late, so they decided to trek from charity down to Oshodi so as to link up with a bus to Mushin. As they proceeded Akorede Elijah was arrested by Holy Spirit and he started running backwardly in a faster speed to the extent that those that were going with him were chasing him but they couldn’t meet him not to talk of stopping him, all the crew were surprised and they all knew that it was God that was in action. It was intervention of God through prayer that stopped him and immediately God was speaking through him (Elijah) that all the remaining people should be praying for him and be pleading on his behalf for mercy and forgiveness because he has disobeyed (Him) if not that He had mercy upon him he would have run backwardly into the wilderness for some days, he should be warned to stop disobeying Me and hearken to My voice, more so when he is calm he should let you people know what I told him about organizing a vigil in his rented apartment on that night. After Elijah was calmed he insisted and told his team that they are still going back to the vigil of the church he was invited and they all went.
The following morning when he got home, there was a fire outbreak and it was only his apartment that got burnt in the whole building. All his belongings and that of people residing with him got burnt but to the greatest surprised of everyone, it was only a section demarcated as an altar (in which there was a Bible, Hymn Book and Candle) that did not burnt including the rug where the altar was laid upon. With all these incidents Elijah Akorede was still insisting that he will never plant a church.
Any church he went with his team either for vigil or services they will be molested, humiliated and disgraced just to discourage him. These incidents of disgraced happened in more than four churches yet he proved stubborn and harden his heart that he would not plant a church.
In the year 1995 Elijah Akorede relocated to Alausa with his friends, the very first Friday they spent in the new apartment, he called his team that “ you people know that today is Friday so let us find a church that we can go and join them for vigil” so they went to one church in radio bus stop, as they were entering into the church all the congregation were looking at them and immediately they were all called out to face the congregation and explained to them why they were coming late to the vigil. This was a great surprised to Elijah and his group because they were expecting the church to embrace them because they were coming to the church for the very first time but reverse was the case.
After been scolded with words they went back to sit. They countless on the disgraced and with joy and happiness they partook in the vigil. The spirit of thy Lord descended on Elijah and he delivered the message he was sent. This amazed the church as a whole so after the vigil some of the church members and the Elders called them apologized and appealed to them that they should be their members. The following Friday he went to another Church in Osin street for vigil, on getting there they were frustrated and humiliated after the vigil on their way back home a lady was arrested by Holy Spirit and she uttered that God said Elijah should gathered people together in his house and organize a vigil the following Friday.
This message from God was not pleasant into his hearing and he concluded in his heart that he will not hearken to it. On the said Friday around 7:15pm Elijah heard the voice of the Lord clear and sound that “Son can you face the consequences of not hearken to my voice?” he was trembled with fear because he doesn’t know what will happen after the utterance. He just went on his knees and started pleading for forgiveness and he was asking God on how he will go about what He commanded Him to do. So God now ordered him to assemble people for 3 Fridays at bar beach for vigil consecutively and it must commence today (that was Friday). On getting home on the last Friday of the vigil, a client and also one of the relatives of the building he was residing came to him and pleaded for a birthday thanksgiving service and he wished it could be done on Sunday, he agreed and informed the members of the Bible Class.
On the faithful day, the man presented drums (Akuba and Base) coupled with percussion (samba) as a thanksgiving gift, what really amazed was that the man was a complete Muslim (though God has spoken through his servant Elijah that the man will be converted and he will be a prophet and to the glory of God the message has come to pass).
Another lady brought an Altar candle light as a gift and many people brought frame, bible as gift also. After this God spoke through many spiritualist and through Elijah himself that “Son you have no excuses again all the items needed to start Sunday services has been provided” That was how Sunday service started without a name. We continued the Sunday services and all the mid- week programmes for a year and some months but one day in JAH night vigil the Lord pronounced out the name as EVANGELICAL CHURCH OF JAH”.
After a while he (Elijah) remembered a terrible dream he had quoted “I met myself in the grave of Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase he stood up and talked to me that I should not deviate from the doctrine he should proclaim the doctrine of The Eternal sacred order of cherubim and seraphim. So during the registration of the church he deemed it fit to add the name eternal coupled with the name of the church. The name now is THE ETERNAL EVANGELICAL CHURCH OF JAH, the glorious morning star, Orisun Imisi.
To God be thy glory, the church was planted in heaven but only has her root in this world. “ kii se ogbon eniyan bikose Olorun Mose Orimolade omo Tunolase. Not by will of man but by divine orchestration.
